IOQM (RMO & PRMO)
The PRMO - Pre- Regional Mathematical Olympiad is the 1st level of the renowned Mathematics Olympiad exam.
The PRMO examination is usually held in the month of around August every year (Dates are subjected to change because of the COVID pandemic – students are advised to stay updated with the latest news from the official website).
To participate in the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO), the candidates are required to qualify PRMO. PRMO (Pre Regional Mathematical Olympiad) 2020-2021: PRMO is organized in India by - Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE).
HBCSE has now changed the exam name PRMO to IOQM from this year (2020-21). Officially, HBCSE releases the IOQM PRMO application form on their official website of MTAI – www.mtai.org.in.
New Changes In PRMO Exam
From this year HBCSE have introduced several changes in the PRMO exam :
• Pre regional mathematical olympiad-PRMO exam is now renamed to IOQM from the academic year 2020-21.
• Earlier, The Mathematical Olympiad was a total 6 stage exam. But now, the exam stages have been trimmed down to total 3 stages: IOQM, INMO and IMOTC.
• Registration Process can be done through online channel from the official website: http://iaptexam.in/. The interested candidate must note that the earlier registration forms are supposed to be filled from the school centres itself.
• MTA officials will be conducting PRMO exam on the final date ( Previous Date was – 17th Jan, 2021).
PRMO Eligibility Criteria
Students who are born on or after August 1, 2001, are eligible to apply for the PRMO.
Students currently studying in 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th standards are eligible to participate.

RMO
RMO - Regional Mathematics Olympiad is the second stage for the PRMO qualifiers of the IMO exam - International Mathematical Olympiad. HBCSE regional bodies conducts RMO regionally with the support and under the observation of HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education). RMO answer papers are evaluated by HBCSE regional coordinators, and the results are sent to HBCSE for the final declaration.
What is RMO?
The RMO Olympiad - Regional Mathematical Olympiad, consists of a 3-hour written test exam with six questions. From each region, upto and about 30 participated students from 8th to 11th standard and about 6 students from 12th standard are selected for INMO- which is the 3rd stage of IMO.
Moreover, Up to 5 girls may be selected only from among students studying in classes 8, 9, 10, & 11 standards, and these selections can be made for each region apart from the general quota of 30 participating students. One must note that, the selection criteria is not dependent on the number of girls who may be one of 30 participating students from the region. Note – the girl students studying in 12th standard will not be eligible for the additional selections from the girls' quota.
RMO Eligibility Criteria
The participated and selected students in the top 300 list from standards - 8, 9, 10, and 11 will be eligible to participate in RMO olympiad. Apart from this, the top 60 selected students from 12th standard will be chosen to participate in RMO Olympiad in each region.
This must be noted that - students from KV and JNV schools will be counted as separate regions. Maximum of top 5% of participants from 8th to 11th standards and only the top 1% of the selected students from 12 standard will be selected to participate in RMO.
RMO 2021 Registration
The best qualifier from the RMO will be selected for INMO - Indian National Mathematical Olympiad which is the third stage of IMO. About 900 candidates are qualified for the INMO Olympiad.
RMO Olympiad is a kind of descriptive examination in which the appearing candidates are provided with an answer sheet and rough papers to solve the mathematical problems. It is to be known in advance that after the exam, students are supposed to return their answer sheet and the rough sheets, whether it is used or unused.
After IMOTC, a team will be selected which will consist of 6-members to represent their country at IMO- International Mathematical Olympiad on international grounds.
RMO Exam Dates
Please do note that, due to this pandemic situation timetables and dates can change, and due to the same reason, this year’s exam was cancelled. therefore, students are advised to stay updated with the latest news on the official HBCSE website.
